Hedonic evaluation of coral reef fish prices on a direct sale market

چکیده
Using two-stage Rosen’s model, this evaluation aims to deduce the implicit prices of coral-reef fish species most commonly encountered in road-side market Moorea (French Polynesia) during 2014–2015, from bundles species, called tuis. Index value are calculated which vary, all else equal, between 33% (Selar) and 137% (Acanthurus) price reference (Scarus). Estimating translogarithmic specifications allow identification positive cross-species elasticities imply complementarity reef each tui. The composition tuis is therefore a strategy enhance catches. These results demonstrate relevance empirical economic analysis improving understanding small-scale fisheries Pacific.

Fish Feces as Fish Food on a Pacific Coral Reef
The fates of 5,975 feces produced by 88 species of reef fishes were monitored at Palau (western Pacific Ocean). At least 4 5 fishes ate fish feces in addition to other foods. Intraspecific coprophagy and autocoprophagy were very rare and most coprophagous interactions were between members of different trophic groups. Fecal material moved through a feeding network of fishes, from carnivores to h...
متن کاملInfluence of live coral cover on coral-reef fish communities
The effect of percentage live coral cover on the number of fish species and individuals was determined by censusing fish from a series of reefs of comparable structural complexity, but with different proportions of live coral, in the lagoon of Mataiva Atoll, Tuamotu Archipelago. Regression analysis showed that there was a highly significant (p < 0.001) positive relationship between live coral c...
متن کاملThe Value of Terroir: Hedonic Estimation of Vineyard Sale Prices
We examine the value of terroir, which refers to the special characteristics of a place that impart unique qualities to the wine produced. We do this by conducting a hedonic analysis of vineyard sales in the Willamette Valley of Oregon to ascertain whether site attributes, such as slope, aspect, elevation, and soil types, or designated appellations are more important determinants of price. We f...
متن کاملOcular media transmission of coral reef fish — can coral reef fish see ultraviolet light?
Many coral reef fish are beautifully coloured and the reflectance spectra of their colour patterns may include UVa wavelengths (315-400 nm) that are largely invisible to the human eye (Losey, G. متن کاملColour thresholds in a coral reef fish
Coral reef fishes are among the most colourful animals in the world. Given the diversity of lifestyles and habitats on the reef, it is probable that in many instances coloration is a compromise between crypsis and communication. However, human observation of this coloration is biased by our primate visual system. Most animals have visual systems that are 'tuned' differently to humans; optimized...
